Windows User, take note! A new and threatening security issue has appeared in your account, so your PC can become infected. This “new” crack, according to Microsoft, is currently in use by attackers but the former has only developed an important patch for this. You will have 21 days to upgrade your PC, as well as to protect your information, to the new version of Windows. Here’s what you need to know:
The Hidden Threat
Researchers from Check Point are reporting a new and rather sneaky technique that is being used by attackers to target Windows systems. Thus, it turns users into opening URLs with the outdated and insecure Internet Explorer (IE) instead of current browsers such as Chrome or Edge
figuring out hidden flaws. IE is still present within the Windows OS, even after users retire it, which describes why the attackers are using it as the default platform.
The Serious Consequences
The US government has not turned a blind eye to this threat courtesy of its Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Now they have this integrated in the Known Exploit Vulnerability and come up with an ultimatum whereby federal Windows systems must be updated or powered off by the 30th of July. This vulnerability identified as CVE-2024-38112 is critical as it threatens the confidentiality integrity and availability of your data.
The Urgency
According to Check Point, the identified vulnerability has been actively used by cybercriminals for a long time, which means that all companies, as well as ordinary Internet users, should update their devices as soon as possible. There is another critical flaw, CVE-2024-38080: MICROSOFT WIND
OWS HYPER-V PRIVILEGE ESCALATION VULNERABILITY, which should also be fixed soon.
The Solution
Microsoft of course released its security patch in July that has the fix for both of these serious flaws as well as 137 other security holes. If you update your Windows system now you will be safe from these exploits and the data, you hold dear will be safe.
Take Action Now
Warning all Windows users to patch at the earliest opportunity, Check Point’s Eli Smadja said: The exploit is especially shocking mainly because it targets Internet Explorer which can be present on the user’s device, and he or she might not even know this. This report should also have served as a wake-up call for individuals still running Windows 10 because it’ll reach its end-of-life next October hence, it will not regularly take updates.
Timing…. don’t wait until… Upgrade your Windows system now and keep or PC safe from these severe risks. Time is running out and you have only twenty-one days to meet your system security needs. So be safe and upgrade today!
